A railway line (10) is fastened to a concrete sleeper (11) using a spring steel clip (15) acting with a stud (12) which projects from a robust embedded anchor block. The stud projects from an exposed plinth of which a vertical face (14) resists lateral rail forces, having a unilaterally cantilevering (27) head (16) which holds the clip in a vertically compressed state. The clip is of a doubled form having two approximately horizontal legs connected by a fold (17), the lower leg having a rectangular opening which passes over the bolt head. The upper leg has a longitudinal slot which opens out on the free end. Once in place the clip acts as a third lever, a bulbous fold (17) forming the fulcrum.
