The packing paper unrolling mechanism comprises a paper roll turning freely, an unrolling cylinder operated by hand and on which a supporting cylinder rests under its own weight, and a cursor with knife moved by the user in front of the unrolling and supporting cylinders to part off a sheet. In front of the unrolling cylinder (5) is a guide surface (8) with a holder securing the paper. The cutter mechanism works between the wall behind this surface and the unrolling cylinder. In the paper travel direction, the guide surface can have a first portion (81) immediately adjacent to the outlet from between the supporting (6) and unrolling cylinders, and where there is a groove (82) in which the cursor (7) travels, followed by a curved slide face (83) extending downwards, so as to be in contact with the sheet over an angle of 90 degrees approximately.
