Structural sound-proofing of rubber-filled cement - bound by aq. resin emulsion for compatibility with conventional water-based building materials

Cast material for inhibiting sound transmission from solid flooring or paving slabs comprises mixture of an emulsion of styrene-based polymer and blend of solid particles of cement and fibrous and powdered rubber. Specifically claims matls. incorporating artificial Portland cement and black rubber as particles 1-5 mm across and fibres 2-25 mm long. The aqueous mixture is compatible with convejtional building materials, unlike dressings based on oil-soluble binders. Pref. the resin is carboxylated styrene butadiene copolymer : opt. the supporting structure is painted with a similar resin just before the rubber filled mix is applied Tiles or slabs are bonded to the soundproofing layer by using a styrene-acrylate copolymer and grouted with a mastic based on a similar copolymer.
