A closed hydraulic system working at a prescribed pressure includes hydraulic cylinders controlling the gap between the work rolls, and other hydraulic cylinders are used to control the gap between a pair of back-up rolls. The appts. includes a meter measuring the thickness of the rolled prod. and feeding signals to a logic circuit employed to control a unit correcting the vol. of fluid in the closed hydraulic circuit. Another electronic unit makes an allowance for the time delay between the exit of the rolled prod. from the rolling mill and its entry into the thickness meter. The correction of the vol. of flid in the closed hydraulic circuit is pref. achieved via two other hydraulic cylinders fitted with valves controlled by the logic circuit.
