The movable flap in the seat is held in place by a hook which can be released by a spring-loaded lever situated at the rear of the seat. The flap is supported at one end by a curved guide plate which is hinged to the flap at one end and support between two rollers at the other. When the flap is released by the lever, the guide pivots downwards, keeping the flap horizontal, to a position spaced rearwardly and below the seat, in this position a bed-pan can be inserted to be supported on the guide.
