A mains electric power cable is connected by a switch to two prim. windings on a transformer; another switch permits one or both prim. windings to be used so the voltage can be altered. The transformer has several sec. windings, esp. two to six windings; and one or more of the sec. windings can be connected by a switch to an electric resistance heater element for the solder bit. The result is that the same solder bit can be used for small or large workpieces during soft soldering with tin, esp. in electronics, repairs, or joining cables.
