Nuclear fuel transport insert - with five square cells in pentagonal pattern and neutron absorbent in walls

An insert for a nuclear fuel transport container includes a number, pref. five cells of square section which are arranged so that their sides form a pentagon and create the central space for a sixth cell. The double walls of each cell, made of stainless steel, receive a filling of a neutron absorbing material, pref. a dispersion of boron carbide in an aluminium matrix. Water cooling dissipates the heat. This insert holds themax. of fuel within the given transport limits and eliminates the risk of a critical state, caused by an accident.
