Condensate recovery system for a multiple effect evaporator installation of the type in which the process working pressure decreases progressively from the first effect to the final effect. From the heat exchanger of each of several effects, a condensate return pipe leads into a common reservoir from which condensate can be extracted, partic. pumped. The condensate outlet of each heat exchanger is positioned high enough above the reservoir level to ensure than the heat exchanger drains by gravity into its condensate return pipe. Since the reservoir is under first or second effect pressure. The first and second must have the outlets of their heat exchanger high enough above the reservoir level to overcome the pressure differential between themselves and the effect pressurising the reservoir. Used for improvement of evaporator installation for concentrating liq. food prods. such as skimmed milk, coffee essence etc. A single reservoir with one extraction pump makes this a simpler, cheaper installation than those having separate condensate collection for effects at different pressures.
