Ice resistant floats for protecting external swimming pools - involving expanded polyolefin foam cores and rigid PVC tubes in a flexible plastic cover

Floats for subdividing the surface of an outdoor pool or tank during winter, to suppress damage by ice formation, comprise a slab of closed cell foam (I) enclosed in a n envelope of flexible, waterproof (PVC) film together with a heavy rod to weight the lower edge and a hollow tube to simplify coupling of the exposed edge to adjacent floats. Opt.(I) is of expanded polyolefin sheet laminated to produce the required overall thickness. The hollow tube, and opt. a sleeve enclosing a metal rod for a weight, are made of a rigid plastic material, e.g. PVC. The floats are sufficiently flexible to accommodate pressure due to ice expansion.
