A continuous mixer for dissolving a gas in a liq. Comprises a chamber in which the liq. and gas are brought together. The two fluids are both introduced via automatic valves. The lever of controlled, as in the concn. of gas dissolved in the liq. Liq. gas is fed into an evapn. chamber which is in contract with the mixing chamber from which some heat of evapn. is derived. The lever of liq. gas is automatically controlled in the evapn. chamber from which gas flows into the mixing chamber via an automatic control valve. The evapn. chamber pref. forms a jacket surrounding the mixing chamber. As liq. enters the mixing chamber it loses heat by transfer to the wall of th evapn. chamber. Used in dissolving, esp. sulphur dioxide in water to produce a soln. for treating must in the prodn. of wine. Automatic controls assure continuous prodn. of a treatment soln. of constant density and therefore treatment strength.
