Automatic tool retraction thread-cutting lathe - uses slide to free lever bolt and release retraction sprung tool spindle

The drive for a lathe is used during multi-pass thread cutting, effecting automatic tool (5) retraction at the end of each pass. The tool (5) is mounted on an axially slidable retraction sprung (8) spindle (7), with electromagnets or rams to operate a lever bolt (2) and effect spindle release. An end of run contact may energise an electromagnet (12), causing the displacement of a locking slide (3) towards the tool, allowing a bolt (2) to pivot upward, and effecting spindle retraction under the action of a spring (8). A hand lever may be used to re-position the spindle.
