The sign uses optical fibres for signalling and publicity signs and such applications, road signs in particular. It consists of a supporting plate on which the information is reproduced so that it may be read in ambient light and even if the light associated with the fibre optics is extinguished. Optical fibres trace the outline of the design of the sign spaced by around five or ten times the fibre diameter. The bundle of fibres is brought together in front of a light source such as a Xenon flash tube inside the support. The fibres are lead through holes in the sign. The support may also be reflective or translucent with the design on the inner face.
