Vertical tabulation control for automatic printer - uses thumbwheel settings for number of lines to be skipped in each column and coded line counter in paper feed

The vertical tabulation control for computer fed printers offers advantages over the use of a guide strip on the printer paper or program control of line skipping before printing occurs. Thumb wheels (A1) are used to set the number of lines to be skipped in each column of the printout. Each thumbwheel gives a binary coded output which is compared by a comparator (C3) against the coded output of a line counter (C1) incorporated in the paper feed mechanism. Each comparator output steps forward (C2) the multiplexer (M1) which selects the next column coding from the thumbwheel settings (A1). A decoding circuit uses the counter.
