Retaining heavy hydrocarbon(s) spread over sea bottom - by placing structural elements vertically and connecting together define retention zone around pollution source e.g. sunken tanker
Method of retaining a layer of heavy hydrocarbons spread over the bottom of the sea comprises defining a retention zone around the layer and the source of pollution, e.g. a wrecked tanker by laying down on the sea bed structural elements fluid-tight to the heavy hydrocarbons. Each element is anchored in the sea bed so that it is disposed in a vertical plane sepg. the retention zone from the free water. The elements are connected together in a fluid-tight manner. Method allows the pollution to be limited by retention of the heavy hydrocarbons in a perfectly defined zone during the time necessary for its destruction by bacteria.
