The control panel for a microprocessor based 'trip-computer' incorporated in an automobile uses a 4 x 4 touch sensitive keyboard matrix (11), a four digit seven-segment display (12), two slide switches (13, 14), and four axiliary touch sensors (15). The control panel may be used both to enter information to the trip computer and to request display of information and computation results. Ten of the keys (16-18, 20-22, 24-26, 28-29) have dual functions allowing numerical data entry, accessed by three differently coloured keys (19, 23, 27). In addition to distance, average speed, and fuel consumption computation the engine speed, and the real time may be displayed. A key (30) holds the display and another key (31) allows a code number to be entered by the driver as an anti theft device.
