Agglomeration of ore mixts. on travelling sintering grate - where ore mixt. is baked as two separate layers, and coal may be used to replace coke in mixt.
Upper track of an endless chain grate or belt travels over a row of wind boxes. A protective underlayer is deposited on the upper track of the belt, and then a first layer of ore mixt. Layer travels under an igniter hood. At a point where the first layer is completely baked, another hopper is used to deposit a second layer of ore mixt. on top of the first layer. Second layer then travels under a second ignited hood and, after its entire thickness has baked, both layers enter a cooling zone on the belt. The pref. plant pref. includes three sets of wind boxes which draw hot gases through the first two sets and feed them via washers to an exit chimney. Increased productivity plus improved purificn. of waste gas are obtd. before the latter enters the environment, so oily ferrous materials can be used in the ore mixt., as well as coal used as a substitute for coke.
