Positioning feed for instruments in vacuum vessel - has two parallel gear-boxes controlled independently with air tight mounting flange

The manipulating feed is used to position a measuring instrument in the toroid of a particle accelerator. It consists of a screw using fixed nuts driven by an inching motor. The nuts transmit an axial motion to a broach which positions the instrument into the required mode. The assembly is duplicated and separated by a slot rendering the two halves independent. Adjustment of the broach can be effected by displacement of adjusting plates on the support struts. The integrity of the vacuum is ensured by an air tight mounting flange and bellows.
