The seal is intended for arrangement between the spigot end (11) of one pipe and the socket end (8) of another (9) in which it is inserted and may be used for concrete or ceramic drainage pipes. It comprises an elastomer sleeve (1,4) of which one end is connected to a reinforcing ring (5) whose maximum diameter is greater than the inner diameter of the socket. The ring (5) has a cylindrical portion (7) which extends into the socket and has the sleeve secured on its outer surface. The sleeve profile pref. has a portion (1) which, when relaxed, has a smaller diameter than the spigot.
