The system supplies material liable to explode into a furnace or other combustion chamber with an explosion risk. The material is transferred from the loading station into the furnace via a metering mechanism, the latter receiving it from the station in one position and performing a translatory movement into a second position in order to discharge it into the furnace. In both positions the mechanism shuts off the loading station from the furnace, so as to prevent blow-back. The mechanism can comprise two pistons (8,9) spaced on a common rod and reciprocating in a cylinder (4), containing a filling port (6) connected to the loading station and a discharge port communicating with the furnace. The material is accommodated between the pistons, one of which always shuts off the furnace from the loading station.
