Biological system for the purifn. of effluent contg. organic material principally anaerobically is characterised by continuous seeding of all or part of the effluent by a mixed population of fungi and bacteria enabling biological catalysis of anaerobic degradation reaction. The population contains Trichoderma reesei, Mucer rouxii, Sporotrichum pulverulentum, Zooflea ramigera; Bacillus substits, lichenformis, and psychrosacharolyticus; Pseudomonas fluorescens, Enterobacter cloacae, Streptococus faecalis; Cellulormonas cellasea and flarigena; and Hescherichia coli ML30. The system may be applied to urban and industrial effluent. ITischeaperthanaerobicinstallationsandgivesahigheryield on a given time which enables small installations.
