Data in binary form is transferred optically to each projectile by light guides (10) on the weapon, the projectile having a semiconductor receptor (22) in its forward end. This feeds a photoelectric sensor (25). Further light guides (35) ensure correct alignment of the projectile with the data transmitting guides. Processing circuits (26) etc. in the projectile are powered by some form of pyrotechnic cell (31). Data to the launcher guides is derived from LED's or from a diode laser (18). The data transfer can take less than 3mSecs and will cover detonation after firing or launch in steps of a second and delay after impact in steps of 100microsecs from 0 to 100 millisecs.
