The device comprises a radioactive radiation source and a radiation detector for continuously conveying a material stream. At least part of the conveying path lies in the source irradiation zone. The detector receives radiation reflected by the material and is mounted with the source on a means of impacting the material on the conveying path. The device is partic. used for determining the ash-content of coal. Measurements are more accurate and consistent since the material does not move in a direct line. The device is simple and cheap to construct, and can be easily adapted to present conveyor systems.
