PURPOSE:To enable easy and rapid measuring of moisture, by a method wherein measurement of compound coal by an infrared gauge is corrected and converted into a value equivalent to that of an absolute dry reference method utilizing a relation formula between measurement of each unit coal previously found by an infrared moisture gauge and the absolute dry reference method. CONSTITUTION:A relation formulaI(where y is moisture value by an absolute dry reference method, x is measurements by the infrared moisture gauge, and a, b are constant) between measurements of moisture of each unit coal, of which compound coal consists, by an absolute reference method (which is accurate but takes a long time in measurement) and measurements of an infrared moisture gauge (which can measure in a short time but diverges from an absolute value) is previously found. Moisture of compound coal under conveyance on a belt conveyor is measured with the infrared moisture gauge placed on the conveyor, and constants A and B in a formula II, which are obtained through weighed- averaging of the constants a, b in the formulaIto the results by a composition ratio of unit coal whose moisture is measured, are found to compute a value Y equivalent to that of the absolute reference method through introduction of a measurement X of the infrared moisture gauge to the formula II. This analyzes mositure of compound coal for coke making for a short period of time, which results in enabling to perform a quick regulation of a carbonizing conition of a coke furnace.
