PURPOSE:An excellent amorphous magnetic alloy that comprises Co, Mn and B in a specific cmposition, is suitable mainly as the magnetic core material of a magnetic head and has a high magnetic flux density, high permeability and a small coercive force. CONSTITUTION:The amorphous alloy that has a compositional formula represented by CoXMnYBZ where 58=X=80atom%; 0Y=30atom%; 12=Z= 30atom%; and X+Y+Z=100, and has a saturated magnetic flux density of 3,000 gauss or more and an effective permeability of 1,000 or more. Where the crystallization temperture TX of this alloy is higher than its Curie temperature TC, it is heated at TC-TX for 1sec-10hr in a non-magnetic field and then is cooled at an appropriate rate corresponding to its composition of 5 deg.C/sec or more. Where TX is lower than TC, the alloy is heated at 1,000 deg.C-TX for 1sec-10hr in a magnetic field, and then is cooled at an appropriate rate corresponding to its composition of 5 deg.C/sec or less.
