PURPOSE:To carry out complete and rapid separation and determination of catecholamines, by filling a stainless steel chromatographic column with porous polymer particles obtained by aqueous suspension polymerization of a mixture of divinylbenzene (DVB) and (meth)acrylic acid in the presence of a specific organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. monomer mixture that contains 25-50wt% DVB and 15-60wt% acyrylic or methacrylic acid is mixed with 15-200pts.wt. organic solvent (toluene, xylene, hexane, etc. alone or as a mixture) that dissolves the minomer mixture but not copolymers thereof to make an aqueous solution, in which aqueous suspension polymerization is carried out. Among the polymer particles thus obtained, those with diameters from 3-10mu are packed in a high performance liquid chromatographic stainless steel column for analysis. In this way catecholamines in blood plasma, urine, etc., such as adrenalin, nor-adrenalin, or dopamine can be separated completely and rapidly, allowing high-accuracy quantitative analysis.
