PURPOSE:To find a core eccentric distance without processing of an optical fiber, by a method wherein both two fibers wherein a fiber is cut into two pieces are repeatedly operated in each of given processes. CONSTITUTION:A single fiber is cut into 2 pieces of fibers, two V-recess plates are prepared, and optical fibers 11 and 12 are set in the V-recesses 31 and 32. The following processes are repeatedly performed in a given order; an outer diameter center axis aligning process wherein the optical fibers are positioned facing and opposite to each other in condition that the outer diameter centers thereof coincide with each other; a turning process wherein cut end surfaces of the two optical fibers are caused to perform a relative turn at a low turning angle; and a core center axis aligning process wherein the core centers of the two optical fibers coincide with each other through the relative movement of the cut end surfaces in a longitudinal and a lateral axis direction. This creates a core center axis aligning condition wherein displacement in outer diameter between the two optical fibers is brought to maximum to find a position of a core center against an outer diameter center and measure a core eccentric distance.
