To prevent the renewed settling of coating material in the spray booth (2) of a powder-coating apparatus (1), the structural parts (3, 4, 5) laden with this are briefly heated to a temperature which is above the melting temperature of the coating material. This can be carried out by spraying with hot water or hot steam or by heating by means of infrared radiation or induction. It is possible, in this way, to carry out an extremely thorough cleaning, so that the idle times occurring when a paint or powder is changed are short. Since the paint particles are melted down and thereby combine, their volume is increased in such a way that they are no longer capable of flight and form drops which fall downwards and are flushed away or, after cooling, adhere to the side walls. The cleaning of the spray booth can therefore be carried out in a very short time, with simple handling and with little labour. IMAGE
