PURPOSE:To facilitate removal of core grids and cores from cast holes after casting and decrease bore pitches by burying reinforcing core grids into the cast holes connecting jacket cores to the short sides of outside walls. CONSTITUTION:A pair of cast holes 12, 13 are formed in a way as to be continuous to the longitudinal parts existing on the right and left of a sand mold core 11 in one short side part of the outside wall of a cylinder block 4. A cast hole 13 is formed also at the center in the short side part of the other outside wall. Reinforcing core grid bars 14, 14 are buried in the longitudinal part of the core 11 by being penetrated at one end through the holes 12, 12. Hence, the deformation by casting pressure is obviated, and after the casting, the bars 14 are removed outward from the core 11 through the holes 12. Then, the core 11 collapses from the holes 12, 13, thus making the discharging of the molding sand easy.
