PURPOSE:To measure a flow rate of waste gas in an oxygen converter with good accuracy, by introducing tracer.gas into the converter during a blowing period of the oxygen converter and analyzing the concentration of the tracer.gas, CO and CO2 and then, computing the flow rate of the waste gas from the value of this analysis. CONSTITUTION:Ar tracer.gas is blown together with oxygen for decarbonization into a converter 1 taken in a molten steel 2 through an oxygen lance 3 and the gas is discharged through a skirt 4. Ar gas is measured by a flowmeter 6 and CO, CO2, Ar and N2 of components of waste gas is analyzed continuously by a mass spectrometer. Q(beta is a confidence coefficient of an analyzer)is found from analyzed value of the concentration of Ar and N2 basing on the expressionIand a waste gas presumed decarbonization quantity C1 is found from the analyzed value of XCO (CO concentration) and XCO2 (CO2 concentration) in the waste gas and a blowing required time (tep) by an operational recorder 7 basing on the expression II. Transition of the concentration of C in the molten steel in the converter is known by finding the quantity C1 by said method because the quantity C1 and a difference C2 of the quantity of carbon in raw material and that of in the molten steel taken out from the converter, is in a constant ratio.
