METHOD OF CONTROLLING INSECT PESTS OF BOOKS AND PAINTINGS

PURPOSE:Books or paintings are tightly sealed together with a deoxidization material that is prepared by tightly sealing a deoxidizing composition in a permeable package of a specific moisture permeability in an impermeable package material or air-tight vessel to eradicate insect pests of books and paintings. CONSTITUTION:Books or paintings are tightly sealed in an impermeable package material or air-tight vessel together with a deoxidization material (whose equilibrium RH is 50-90%, preferably 60-90%) which is prepared by packing air- tightly a deoxidizing composition such as a combination of an iron powder and a metal halide in a permeable material with a moisture permeability of 10- 150g/m2.24hr, preferably 20-70g/m2.24hr at 25 deg.C and 75 RH difference to control insect pests of books and paintings such as cigarette beetles or drugstore beetles.
