NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formulaI(R is lower alkanoyl). EXAMPLE:L-alpha-N-Acetylglutamyl-D-glucosamine. USE:Drug for peptic ulcer. It has excellent effect to the digestive tracts, esp. the stomach and the duodenum. Pref. for peroral administration. PROCESS:The objective compound of formulaIis prepared by reacting the compound of formula II with a reactive derivative of a lower alkanoic acid (e.g. acid chloride, acid bromide, acid anhydride, etc.) in water or in an organic solvent which does not participate in the reaction, in the presence of a base such as sodium hydrogen carbonate, amine, etc. The lower alkanoyl group is e.g. acetyl, proprionyl, butyryl, etc.
