PURPOSE:To obtain a new poly(trans-platinum group element actylide) as an useful polymer as hyerogenation catalyst for organic unsaturated compounds, by the reaction of a platinum group element acetylide derivative polymer with a tertiary phosphine, etc., so as to exchange part of tributyiphosphine with other ligands. CONSTITUTION:A poly[trans-bis(tributylphosphine)-platinum group element acetylide] of formula I (where M is Pt, Ni, or Pd, Y is a direct bond, 1,4-phenylene group, etc., Z is a halogen or a substituted ethynyl group such as groups of formulas II and III, and n is 5-60) is reacted with a tertiary phosphine other than tributylphosphine, a tertiary arsine, a tertiary stibine, or a tertiary amine, in a solvent diethylamine in such a way that most or part of tributylphosphine liquid in the polymer of formula I are exchanged with another ligand in order to obtain the titled polymer of formula IV [where M(L)2 is a group of formula V, VI, or VII, 10-70% of L is Bu3P and the remaining 90-30% is a tertiary phospine other than tributylphosphine, e.g., Et3P, Ph2BuP, Me2PhP, etc., or Ph3As, Ph3Sb, or Ph3N].
