1471057 Stringed instruments MUSIKINDUSTRIELL FORSKNING MIFO AB ELLIOT OSTGOTABANKENS FASTIGHETSBYRA AB 4 April 1974 [5 April 1973] 15095/74 Heading G5J A device for securing the end of a string in a stringed musical instrument comprises a rocker 2 pivotally mounted on a fulcrum 6 on a stationary frame 9 and constructed so that on pivoting a string 1 is tensioned and subjected to a clamping action either directly between the rocker and the fulcrum or between a resilient member provided on the rocker (16, Fig. 3, not shown) and the body of the rocker, the body of the rocker having a channel 3 in the region that co-operates with the fulcrum through which the string can be passed to the region where clamping occurs when the device is in use, and where the frame is constructed so that the rocker can be held against the tension of the string. As shown, the channel may be tangential to the surface of the rocker facing the fulcrum 6. A guide 4 for the string 1 may include a groove (not shown). The end of the rocker may be held in place against the string tension by inserting a plate 8 through a slot 10 in the frame 9 and the plate may carry or be adapted to 'carry at least one fine tuning screw 11 which acts on the end of the rocker remote from the fulcrum. The upper part of the rocker 2 may have a slot 15 which can accommodate a tool 14 for urging the rocker to pivot about the fulcrum when a string is secured in the device. The rocker may be of aluminium. The frame can form part of an upright piano, a grand piano, a harpsichord or a zither.
