An insulation blanket for protecting the drive mechanism of a valve against fire has (from outside to inside) a ceramic blanket, an aluminium foil and a blanket of mineral wool. Preferably a blanket of the following construction (from the outside to the inside) is used: a ceramic blanket 12.5 mm thick and a density of 97 kg/m3, an aluminium foil 0.5 mm thick, a mineral blanket 40 mm thick and a density of 110 kg/m3, in which the stacked layers are completely enveloped by a glass fibre cloth that is sewn with a glass fibre and a steel wire and is provided through the insulation blanket with mutually spaced naps of nylon. Such a blanket covering a valve prevents the valve temperature from exceeding 95 DEG C when exposed to a fire of 1100 DEG C for 15 minutes.
