Draining liq. from sewage sludge etc. dumped in container - to cover disposable coil of flexible perforated pipe connected to suction pump

Before sludge is loaded into the container, a perforated, flexible pipe is spread around in sinuous coils to cover a major part of the base area of the container. The pipe is connected to an outlet drain which is pref. piped to the suction side of a pump. The pipe is held in position in the container by a suspension which is unaffected by sludge being loaded in but automatically releases the pipe when sludge is discharged, e.g. by tipping. The suspension pref. comprises textile threads e.g. of cotton or plastic. The threads are strong enough to hold the pipe as sludge is loaded. When sludge is discharged the threads break and the pipe is ejected with the sludge. The process and container are used for draining water and other liqs. from wet sludge produced by water purificn. and industrial effluent treatment processes. The process is economical and extremely reliable. Cleaning of the drainage equipment is less arduous than with filter presses and conventional drainage tanks.
