This is an addn. to 890092, which described a photon collector consisting of a diode, and to which an addn. 207809 was made on 9.04.82. In the present invention, the collector consists of a substrate with an electroplated coating. The substrate is pref. a thin steel sheet covered on one or both sides with a thin film of Cu obtd. by electroplating or another process. The substrate is coated with one or more layers of black nickel by electroplating, so the black surface has the highest possible coefft. of absorption. The copper coated steel substrate may be replaced by any other material with similar properties and/or cost. The collector transforms photons into heat at temps. up to 400 deg.C.
