Preferred compounds are the bromides and iodides of Na, K, Li, Ca and Mg. The metal bromide or iodide may be added to the polymerization medium, and/or the reactor may be pre-purged with an aqueous solution of the salt. Examples describe the polymerization of vinyl chloride.
