A granulated material (I) is claimed which comprises at least a filler bound by an inorganic binder, where the filler comprises, at least in part, a substance having latent hydraulic properties, esp. a pozzolanic material. A method of making this material is also claimed, esp. where calcium oxide, opt. mixed with silica, is present and the slaking of the CaO with water provides the heat required to activate the pozzolanic material, esp. fly ash. Also claimed are a method and appts. for producing a calcium hydroxide- contg. product in which heat absorbing particles, esp. silica- contg. granulate (II), are used to absorb excess heat from the slaking operation, these particles being removed from the CaO product after heat absorption. The granulate (I) is useful as a filler in concrete.
