Aluminium oven anode changeover mechanism - has actuated anode lift grippers with hammer and scraper to clear upper anode surface

The (trolley mounted) mechanism is intended for changing the anode in an electrolytic oven for the prodn. of aluminium where the upper surface of the anode is provided with a bridge piece to which a vertically extending rod is welded which is releasably secured to a conductor rail above the oven. Mechanism comprises a pair of grippers capable of engaging on either side of the bridge piece below the lower end of the rod and lifting the anode after releasing the clamp bolt which secures the rod to the rail. One grioper carries a pivoted hammer which can be operated to clear a residue of alum earth and cryolite from the upper surface of the anode in the area between the legs of the bridge piece. Used for changing anode and cleaning upper surface in electrolytic oven producing aluminium. The arrangement mechanises and simplifies the anode lifting and cleaning operation.
