Inclined water cooled extract hood over steel converter - has single water cooled access hatch with oxygen and measuring probe openings

The water-cooled extractor hood (2) of the non-split type is intended for installation over a steel converter (1) and is provided with a closable (7) opening giving access for replacement of the refractory converter lining. The closure (7) is provided with openings (8,8a) for an oxygen injection probe (6) and a measuring probe (6a). The closure consists of a water-cooled hatch (7) whose cooling system is connected to the cooling system of the hood. The openings (8,8a) are provided on this hatch. The corresponding rims of opening and hatch are preferably surrounded by respective ring tubes (13,14) which connect to water tube bundles forming the walls of hood and hatch. The arrangement provides a better seal and better cooling than achievable with double doors and is less complicated and expensive than a split-type hood in which the lower portion is laterally movable to gain access for re-lining.
