The equipment seals off the opening formed in the frame of a machine tool between two glide ways in the latter, the slides accommodating a slide extending above and below the opening. A flexible strip of material (402) extends between the two slides (26,27), and is held taut by a tensioning device (407,408). There can be a single continuous strip of this material, guided clear of the plane of the opening by guides on the slide (5). Alternatively there can be two strips, attached to the slide at opposite ends, and each winding onto a spring-loaded roll.
