A process for the preparation of anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antirheumatic thienothiazine derivatives of the general formula IMAGE in which R1 denotes lower alkyl, R2 denotes the radical of an aromatic heterocycle having 1 to 3 hetero atoms, which is optionally substituted by one or two lower alkyl groups, or a phenyl radical, which is optionally substituted by halogen, lower alkyl, trifluoromethyl or lower alkoxy, and R3 and R4 each denote hydrogen or lower alkyl, is described.
