1524295 Rubber-metal laminate for tyre reinforcement MONSANTO CO 18 Feb 1976 [19 Feb 1975] 05994/78 Divided out of 1524294 Heading B5N A laminate comprises an elastomeric body having a plurality of steel ribbons bonded therein by means of a bonding promoter for rubber, many of which are specified, the ribbons being spaced substantially parallel to each other in side by side relationship. Each ribbon has a substantially rectangular cross-section, a tensile strength greater than 14,062 hg./cm.SP2/SP and a microstructure of tempered martensite, bainite or a mixture thereof. Such a laminate may be prepared by applying treated steel ribbons to a sheet of unvulcanized rubber, overlaying the ribbons with a further sheet of unvulcanized rubber and vulcanizing the assembly.
