Solid city waste is treated automatically to recover materials for subsequent use. The bags or containers holding the waste are torn and coarse materials are rejected and sent to a dump or an incineration plant for the production of steam needed in the plant. Boards are sepd. and paper mixed with plastic films are also separated. The plastics film are then separated from the paper by a dry process. The organic materials are separated and used to produce stock feed or fertiliser. Iron components are removed and glass is removed at a station downstream of the plant producing stock feed. Pref. the sepd. paper and organic materials are sterilised. Paper pulp is produced using a hydropulper and a rotating sieve, the materials which will not pass through the sieve being removed, while the remainder are pulped. The waste is largely reused.
