Insulator for overhead electric cables comprises a main body which has two connecting members at both ends, and which includes a rod-shaped insulating central portion and =1 resilient bell-shaped portions having axial bores and mounted coaxially on the central portion. Each bell-shaped portion has a upper attachment which fits into the lower recess of the bell-shaped portion about it, and is made of rubber, ethylene-propylene-diene copolymer, ethylene-propylene copolymer, or silicone rubber. The central portion may be made of glass fibre-reinforced synthetic resin, porcelain or glass.
