A process is described for raising the lubricity and abrasion resistance of a coating of a metallic surface subjected to multiple deforming. In this process a precoating material with good adhesion to the metal substrate has added to it a dry film lubricant, the softening point of which is higher than that of the precoating material mixed with it. Such a combination of precoating material and dry film lubricant is applied as a thin film to a metal substrate and hardened. The above precoating material is furthermore described in detail. Metal substrates with such a precoating material can be advantageously converted into sheet metal tins, particularly food tins.
