Each reel or a disc mounted coaxially therewith has two sets of circumferentially arranged holes at different radial distances corresponding in position to symbols thereon. A plurality of probing members 15 have probes thereon. As shown a member has a probe for each reel but there may be only 1, 2 or 3 probes. Each member is biased towards the left so that after reel rotation the probes can enter the holes, if they are suitably positioned, and activate switches 26 via cams 25 to initiate a payout. A probe of more than one probe member may be adapted to enter each of a set of holes.
