Each burner is equipped with its own ignition electrode supplied via a high-voltage line from a common generator, and has its own earth connection. The line is earthed at the end remote from the generator and wired for interruption by a series of switches, one for each burner, operated by insulating stops attached to thespindles of the knobs of the individual gas taps. When all gas taps are off the switch positions are such that the high-voltage line is uninterrupted and disconnected from all ignition electrodes. As each knob is pushed in to open the corresp. gas tap, its insulating stop operates a switch to connect the high-voltage line to the appropriate electrode. A single high-voltage generator reduces the bulk and cost of mfr. and minimises the length of high-voltage wiring.
