MACHINE TOOL HAVING HOLLOW MAIN SPINDLE AND BAR STOCK FEEDING MECHANISM

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREIn a machine tool having a horizontal, hollow mainspindle having therein a main chuck for gripping a barstock and confronting at a front thereof a machining zone,into which the forward end of the bar stock is intermit-tently fed through the main chuck from the rear for everycycle of machining by a selected tool mounted on a toolsupport structure on feed slides and brought into themachining zone to carry out machining of the bar stock, abar end support engages and supports the forward end ofthe bar stock at the start of each intermittent feedingthereof and stably guides the same fully into positionfor machining a unrelatedly to the rotation of the mainspindle, whereby the cyclic bar feeding and machiningoperation can be continuously carried out without stopp-ing the main spindle. Means are provided whereby barstocks of circular cross-sectional shape and any shapeother than a circle can be thus machined.
