INVENTION: IRON GROUP TRANSITION METAL-REFRACTORYMETAL-BORON GLASSY ALLOYSINVENTOR: RANJAN RAYABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURELow boron content alloys containing molybdenumare disclosed. The glassy alloys of the invention consistessentially of about 5 to 12 atom percent boron, one ofthe member selected from the group of 20 to 60 atom percentmolybdenum and about 13 to 40 atom percent tungsten andthe balance essentially one of the group consisting ofcobalt, iron and nickel.The glassy alloys evidence hardness values ofat least about 1000 Kg/mm2, ultimate tensile strengthsof at least about 330 Kpsi and crystallization temperaturesof at least about 445°C. The high mechanical strengthand high thermal stability of the glassy alloys of theinvention render them suitable for use as reinforcementin composites for high temperature applications.
